Folsom Dog Training

Dog Training in Folsom, CA

Folsom dogs get the best of both worlds: Historic Folsom, the Johnny Cash Trail and the off-leash fun at FIDO Field. Our dog training in Folsom happens where your dog actually lives, in your home and out on your own block. No travel fee, no kennel, no driving across town.

The whole dog, on your block

How our dog training works in Folsom

Every dog starts with a look at the whole picture: their history, health, home and the people they live with. We use a whole-dog approach and lead with rewards. We come to your home, then take the training out to your block, the Johnny Cash Trail and the streets of Historic Folsom.

What we work on most in Folsom:

The heart of the neighborhood

Dog trainers that know Folsom

More than 25 Folsom families have trained with us.

FIDO Field at 1780 Creekside Drive is Folsom's off-leash dog park, with separate play areas for small and large dogs. All that running and barking is a lot for a reactive or anxious dog, which makes the outside of the fence a great place to practice at the distance your dog can handle.

The vet we trust

Our Folsom vet: Meridian Veterinary Care

Meridian Veterinary Care at 101 East Natoma Street is a Folsom hospital Terra fully believes in, and it's where her own dogs go. Dr. Sara Neilson found Charlie's cancer. Dr. Tsung-Yu Tsai has helped Terra's clients who wanted more Chinese medicine alongside Western care. That's Dr. Angie Stamm with Odie in the photo.

On the training side, the Meridian team helps us with behavior medication evaluations, so dogs who need more than training alone get the right support. You'll also find them on our Canine Community page.

On set

Blind Missiles

Terra handled Maisey Mae of Rancho Cordova for Luke Sital-Singh's official music video for Blind Missiles. Working a dog on a set means staying calm and focused around cameras, crew and a lot of new things, the same real-world skills we build with Folsom families.

On the trail

The Johnny Cash Trail & the leash rules

The Johnny Cash Trail is a 2.5-mile paved trail from Historic Downtown Folsom toward Folsom Dam, past the prison made famous by Johnny Cash. Dogs are welcome on leash.

Watch the heat: when it's 85°F or hotter, the pavement can be too hot for paws. On cooler days, the bikes, walkers and bridges make it great practice for loose-leash walking and staying calm around distractions.

Home first, then the neighborhood

Where we train in Folsom

Most of our Folsom training happens in your home, because that's where your dog's habits live. From there we take it to your block, the outside of the FIDO Field fence and the Johnny Cash Trail. Walking past the fence with dogs playing on the other side is great practice for staying calm around other dogs, without throwing your dog into the park itself.

From our Folsom family

What our clients say

After adopting my 2-year old rescue pup, I realized I needed help for his behavioral issues (including anxiety and fear of people and loud noises). After a few sessions with Terra, my dog's anxiety was noticeably better than before and continues to improve. She provided us strategies using positive reinforcement to help reduce my dog's fear in everyday situations. It's great to have the option to have private sessions where she comes to us, so my dog can be comfortable in our home. She's very knowledgable, explains everything clearly, and tailors each training session to my dog and me. I'd highly recommend Wholistic Canine!

Folsom dog training FAQs

Do you really train in Folsom?

Yes. More than 25 Folsom families have trained with us. We come to your home, then take the training out to your neighborhood.

Do you charge a travel fee to come to Folsom?

No. Folsom is in our service area, and there's no travel fee anywhere in our service area.

Do you train inside FIDO Field?

Usually not. Off-leash dog parks can be a lot for many dogs, so we train outside the fence first, where we can control the distance. Your dog learns to stay calm with dogs playing nearby, and you decide later whether the dog park is a good fit.

Can I walk my dog on the Johnny Cash Trail?

Yes, on leash. It's a 2.5-mile paved trail, so skip it when it's 85°F or hotter, because the pavement can burn paws.

Do you work with vets on behavior medication?

Yes. For behavior cases that may need medication, we work with vets like Meridian Veterinary Care in Folsom on behavior medication evaluations, so training and medical care work together.
