We’ll talk about your puppy — or your puppy plans — and match you with the right trainer.
-
$150–$200
Meet your trainer for a Behavior Consultation
Your trainer meets you and your puppy in person and makes sure you’re starting in the right package. Borderline age, a more mature pup, or an experienced owner working on bigger things might point to Furry Fundamentals instead — this package is about shaping good habits from the start and setting your puppy up for success.
- Behavior Consultations are $150–$200, depending on your trainer
- No commitment beyond the Behavior Consultation — you decide if we’re the right fit

Map out your six sessions
If we’re a fit, we build your plan together — and the trainer from your Behavior Consultation is your puppy trainer for the whole package.
- Six one-hour private sessions — weekly is the goal, and we’ll map all six out from day one
- Sessions are completed within two months of starting. Puppyhood moves fast, and this package is built for the puppy window — not adolescent issues or serious behavior concerns
- Sessions not used within the two months expire — after that, continuing is at our $85/hour rate
-
Paid before session one
Schedule and payment
We get your sessions on the calendar and get started — the earlier in puppyhood, the better.
- Package payment is due in full before your first session
- Financing available

Train where your puppy is growing up
Sessions happen in your home and neighborhood — and your trainer is on retainer between sessions. Real questions get real answers, no waiting for the next class.
- Puppy socialization, done safely — even before vaccinations are finished, we build controlled, positive exposure to the sights, sounds, and experiences that shape a confident adult dog
- A full hour every session — and no, your puppy won’t work for sixty minutes straight. Puppies train in short bursts; the rest of the hour is yours: coaching, questions, and the skills you’ll use all week. Training you is training them.
Graduates of Furst Steps get first pick of our group classes — and follow-up sessions are always available at $85/hour with the trainer who already knows your dog.

Furst Steps FAQs
What puppy obedience covers, why the package is built the way it is, and what comes next. Straight answers, no judgment.
What is puppy obedience training?
Puppy obedience is the foundation stage — teaching your puppy how to learn, how to communicate with you, and the early skills everything else gets built on. It's the puppy obedience training Sacramento families start with to get potty training, biting, socialization, and manners right the first time, instead of undoing bad habits later. For the deep dive on what those early weeks look like, see our puppy training page.
Furst Steps vs Furry Fundamentals — which one?
It comes down to your dog's stage. Furst Steps is built for young puppies in the critical window, when habits are forming fast and socialization matters most. Furry Fundamentals is for adolescents and adults working on obedience and manners. If your dog is somewhere in between, tell us on your free intro call and we'll point you to the right one.
Why six sessions in two months?
Because your puppy's critical window won't wait. The habits your puppy is forming right now — good and bad — set the pattern for their adult life, so the package is designed to fit inside that window: six private, in-home sessions with Mitch or Terra, all completed within two months, with step-by-step coaching between sessions so progress never stalls. The pace isn't a deadline for its own sake; it's the whole point of the package.
What happens after the six lessons?
Whatever your dog needs next — and every graduate has options. You can keep working with your trainer in $85-per-hour follow-up sessions whenever you want a tune-up or a new skill, and our group classes are where the foundation gets proofed around other dogs and real distractions. Puppies ready for a bigger jump can move into a board and train. We'll tell you honestly which one your dog actually needs — including "none yet, keep practicing."
