Rancho Cordova Dog Training

Dog Training in Rancho Cordova, CA

Rancho Cordova dogs have the American River in their backyard: River Bend Park, the Parkway trails and the dog park at Hagan Community Park. Our dog training in Rancho Cordova happens where your dog actually lives, in your home and out on your own block. No travel fee, no kennel, no driving across town.

The whole dog, on your block

How our dog training works in Rancho Cordova

Every dog starts with a look at the whole picture: their history, health, home and the people they live with. We use a whole-dog approach and lead with rewards. We come to your home, then take the training out to your block, Hagan Community Park and the trails along the American River.

Dog trainers that know Rancho Cordova

Rancho Cordova is one of the areas we work in most. More than 40 Rancho Cordova families have trained with us.

Hagan Community Dog Park at 2197 Chase Drive is nearly 2.5 acres inside Hagan Community Park, open sunrise to sunset. It has three areas that rotate between small dogs, large dogs and a resting area. That's a lot of barking, running and excitement for a reactive or anxious dog, which makes the outside of the fence a great place to practice at the distance your dog can handle.

Meet Maisey Mae

Maisey lives in Rancho Cordova with her dad, Zach, of SweetAz Productions, a dog photographer on our Canine Community page.

Terra trained Maisey for the film Mickey's Tree and its music video, Mickey's Swag, which was filmed at River Bend Park with Mitch from our team on set. In 2022, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg gave Maisey a Certificate of Recognition for her work on the film. She's also joined Terra on the set of Studio 40 Live.

River Bend Park & the leash rules

River Bend Park is 444 acres on the American River, open sunrise to sunset, with horse and hiking trails, picnic areas and a busy spot where rafters take out. Parking is $8 per vehicle.

Like the rest of the American River Parkway, dogs must stay on a leash six feet or shorter (Sacramento County Code 9.36.061). Horses, bikes, rafters and picnics make it perfect real-world practice for loose-leash walking and staying calm around distractions.

Home first, then the neighborhood

Where we train in Rancho Cordova

Most of our Rancho Cordova training happens in your home, because that's where your dog's habits live. From there we take it to your block, the paths around Hagan Community Park and the outside of the dog park fence. Walking past the fence with dogs playing on the other side is great practice for staying calm around other dogs, without throwing your dog into the park itself. When your dog is ready, we head to the trails at River Bend Park.

What our clients say

In early November of 2021 I rescued a deaf cattle dog that had been abused. I was well out of my league! After a lot of phone calls and research on the top-rated dog trainers I determined that out of the highly qualified trainers I found Terra was the one I had a connection with that made me feel I could trust her to help us. Upon meeting her it was clear that my dog agreed, the connection and trust came almost immediately. After working with Terra, this terrified and at times uncontrollable dog is the sweetest well behaved cuddle bug! She has trained me along with my dog, which is an important part of the process. Terra goes above and beyond in everything she does, and you can feel how much she cares for you and your dog. She assisted me in finding a wholistic vet as well a trustworthy dog walker. Terra makes herself available to me for calls, questions, and direction as needed. I highly recommend her and her team!

Rancho Cordova dog training FAQs

Do you really train in Rancho Cordova?

Yes. Rancho Cordova is one of the areas we work in most, and more than 40 Rancho Cordova families have trained with us. We come to your home, then take the training out to your neighborhood.

Do you charge a travel fee to come to Rancho Cordova?

No. Rancho Cordova is in our service area, and there's no travel fee anywhere in our service area.

Do you train inside the Hagan Community Dog Park?

Usually not. Off-leash dog parks can be a lot for many dogs, so we train outside the fence first, where we can control the distance. Your dog learns to stay calm with dogs playing nearby, and you decide later whether the dog park is a good fit.

Can I bring my dog to River Bend Park?

Yes, on leash. Dogs must stay on a leash six feet or shorter on the American River Parkway, and parking is $8 per vehicle. The horses, bikes and rafters make it great practice for loose-leash walking.
