Hello, Davis

Davis Dog Training

Puppy & Dog Training in Davis, CA

Davis is a bike town with off-leash areas all over the map, so Davis dogs need manners that hold up in real life. Our dog training in Davis is led by Mitch, our Foundations & Socialization Specialist, who lives right here in town. We come to your home first, then take the training out to your street, your greenbelt and your neighborhood park. No travel fee, no kennel.

The whole dog, on your block

How our dog training works in Davis

Every dog starts with a look at the whole picture: their history, health, home and the people they live with. We use a whole-dog approach and lead with rewards. We come to your home, then take the training out to your street, the greenbelts and your neighborhood park.

What we work on most in Davis:

  • Puppy foundations and socialization: potty training, biting and chewing
  • Structured socialization around bikes, scooters, strollers and busy sidewalks
  • Loose-leash walking on the greenbelts and bike paths
  • A recall you can trust before you try Davis's unfenced off-leash areas
  • Everyday manners: jumping, pulling, door-dashing
  • Reactive, fearful and tougher behavior cases, starting with a Behavior Consultation

Puppies & basics

Davis programs with Mitch

For Davis puppies and basic obedience, Mitch works with you through one of these two programs. If your dog is already dealing with a real problem, like reactivity, fear or an older dog causing trouble, Feral to Focus is built for that.

Fenced and unfenced

Davis dog parks & off-leash areas

Davis has two fenced dog parks: Toad Hollow Dog Park at 1919 Second Street, and the fenced area at Community Park, 1405 F Street, west of the skate park. Toad Hollow doubles as a storm detention pond, so it often closes around heavy winter rain until the field dries.

Davis also has six unfenced off-leash areas: Aspen Greenbelt and parts of John Barovetto, Pioneer, Slide Hill, Sycamore and Walnut parks. Unfenced means your dog's recall has to work for real, with bikes, kids and other dogs nearby. We build that recall at home and on leash first, so off-leash time is fun instead of stressful.

Know before you go

Davis leash rules, in plain words

Everywhere outside the off-leash areas, Davis dogs must be on a leash no longer than 8 feet. Dogs aren't allowed in children's play areas, and every dog needs a Yolo County license.

Those rules are a big reason we put so much work into loose-leash walking. With bike paths and greenbelts all over town, a dog who walks nicely on a short leash makes every walk easier.

Home first, then the neighborhood

Where we train in Davis

Most of our Davis training happens in your home, because that's where your dog's habits live. From there we take it to your block, the greenbelt behind your house and your neighborhood park.

When your dog is ready, we take the work to busier places, like the bike paths and the outside of the dog park fence, so the manners you build at home hold up out in the real world.
