Hello, Carmichael
Carmichael Dog TrainingDog Training in Carmichael, CA
Carmichael dogs have a lot going on: busy courts and playgrounds at Carmichael Park, the off-leash dog park on Grant Avenue, and deer on the trails at Ancil Hoffman. Our dog training in Carmichael happens where your dog actually lives, in your home and out on your own block. No travel fee, no kennel, no driving across town.
The whole dog, on your block
How our dog training works in Carmichael
Every dog starts with a look at the whole picture: their history, health, home and the people they live with. We use a whole-dog approach and lead with rewards. We come to your home, then take the training out to your block, the paths around Carmichael Park and the trails along the American River.
What we work on most in Carmichael:
- Reactivity and leash manners around the courts, playgrounds and picnic areas at Carmichael Park
- Calm passes along the outside of the dog park fence
- Loose-leash walking on the American River Parkway trails at Ancil Hoffman
- Puppy foundations and socialization in your home and neighborhood
- Resource guarding, anxiety and tougher behavior cases, starting with a Behavior Consultation
- Everyday manners: jumping, pulling, door-dashing

Dog trainers that know Carmichael
Carmichael Park at 5750 Grant Avenue is 38 acres of everyday distractions: pickleball and tennis courts, two playgrounds, a disc golf course, picnic areas and the painted Great Wall of Carmichael. It's also home to the Carmichael Dog Park, an off-leash park with separate small and large dog areas, open dawn to dark.
Carmichael is one of the areas we work in most. More than 50 Carmichael families have trained with us.
That's a lot for a reactive, anxious or overexcited dog to take in. We use it on purpose, at whatever distance your dog can handle, so the calm you build at home holds up out in the real world.

On set in Carmichael
Training for the film Mickey's Tree
Terra was the dog trainer for the film Mickey's Tree, and part of it was filmed at Reagor Pet Hospital on Walnut Avenue in Carmichael. She trained the film's dog, Maisey, together with her dad, Zach. In 2022, Sacramento Mayor Darrell Steinberg gave Maisey a Certificate of Recognition for her work on the film.
A vet exam room, a camera crew, lights and a parking lot full of strangers is a lot for any dog. Helping a dog stay calm in a busy, real place is the same work we do with Carmichael families.

On the river
Ancil Hoffman & the leash rules
Ancil Hoffman Park at 6341 Tarshes Drive is one of the best places in Carmichael to walk a dog, as long as you know the rules. Dogs are welcome, but they must stay on leash throughout the park, and they can't go into the Effie Yeaw Nature Center.
The trails come with a herd of deer and around 100 kinds of birds, which makes them perfect practice for impulse control and loose-leash walking. If your dog loses their mind at wildlife, that's exactly the kind of real-world training we do.
Home first, then the neighborhood
Where we train in Carmichael
Most of our Carmichael training happens in your home, because that's where your dog's habits live. From there we take it to your block, the paths around Carmichael Park, and the outside of the dog park fence. Walking past the fence with dogs playing on the other side is great practice for staying calm around other dogs, without throwing your dog into the park itself. When your dog is ready, we head to the trails at Ancil Hoffman.

What our clients say
I have used Terra of Wholistic Canine for almost a year now, first with my fear aggressive dog who is becoming more loving and patient by me continuing to use Terra's training tips, and most recently with her helping us integrate a new pup into our pack. Aside from her very helpful training, I really appreciate how quickly she responds to texts or phone calls.

Carmichael dog training FAQs
Do you really train in Carmichael?
Yes. Carmichael is one of the areas we work in most, and more than 50 Carmichael families have trained with us. We come to your home, then take the training out to your neighborhood.
Do you charge a travel fee to come to Carmichael?
No. Carmichael is in our service area, and there's no travel fee anywhere in our service area.
Do you train inside the Carmichael Dog Park?
Usually not. Off-leash dog parks can be a lot for many dogs, so we train outside the fence first, where we can control the distance. Your dog learns to stay calm with dogs playing nearby, and you decide later whether the dog park is a good fit.
Can I bring my dog to Ancil Hoffman Park?
Yes, on leash. Dogs must stay on leash throughout Ancil Hoffman Park and can't go into the Effie Yeaw Nature Center. The deer and birds on the trails make it great practice for loose-leash walking and impulse control.
Can you train my dog while I'm at work?
Yes. With Furtastic House Rules, a trainer works with your dog at home or out on an adventure while you're gone. You get a written report or video guide the same day.
