In-Home Dog Boarding in Sacramento

Structured boarding with a trainer — not a kennel.

Our in-home dog boarding gives Sacramento dogs a safe, structured alternative to a kennel facility. Your dog spends the day in a real home with Alex, our Canine Relationship Coach — individualized attention in a small group of no more than 6 dogs, their normal feeding and medication schedule, real walks and play, and house manners reinforced the whole stay — then settles into a crate at night for safe, restful sleep, just like at home. Alumni dogs can upgrade to Terra's Overnight Adventure Training, an intensive stay-and-train experience. Either way, your dog vacations with someone who speaks dog.

Walk Away with Peace of Mind

While you're on vacation, your dog isn't sitting in a run waiting for a 20-minute play window. They're living in a home with a trainer who knows them — eating on their normal schedule, taking real walks, and keeping the manners you've worked on. You get photo updates, and your dog comes home the same dog you left. Sometimes better.

What Your Dog's Day Looks Like

No two dogs get the same day — that's the point. Care is tailored to each dog, but every day includes:

🤍 Early mornings — we're up before most households, so dogs get maximum daylight for the fun stuff

🤍 Meals and meds on your dog's normal schedule

🤍 Multiple turnouts throughout the day — group play for social dogs, matched by size and energy

🤍 One-on-one time and real walks

🤍 Outings for training alumni dogs

🤍 Early, calm evenings and crate time for deep, restful sleep

House rules hold for every guest: no bullying in the play yard, no excessive barking, no feet on counters, no door bolting into either fenced in yard. Vacation doesn't mean manners take off.

5 stars by 100+ customers

"We decided to use Alex after calling around Sacramento County and speaking with no fewer than nine board-and-train options. Alex, our trainer, has 15 years of training experience, which included competition obedience, and raising and training police dogs. She was also able to provide a board-and-train environment in her home with a small number of dogs at a time to maximize care / attention. However, it was really the way she engaged with us -- her energy, enthusiasm, and knowledge -- that won us over."

In-Home Boarding FAQs

Is in-home boarding open to new dogs?

Yes — Alex's in-home boarding is open to all dogs, new and returning. No meet-and-greet is required; we just need proof of vaccines before the stay. Drop-off is intentionally quick — for anxious dogs, a fast, confident handoff is far less stressful than a long goodbye. Terra's Overnight Adventure Training is reserved for alumni of our training programs.

Where does my dog sleep?

All dogs sleep in crates overnight for safe, restful sleep, and are in and out of the house all day. If your dog is allowed on the furniture at home, they're welcome on the sofa here too.

My dog doesn't like other dogs. Can they still board?

Yes. Dogs who aren't social are kept safely separated, and social dogs are grouped by size, play style, and energy level. We never force group play. The only dogs we can't accept are dogs who are unsafe to physically handle.

How many dogs board at a time?

Never more than 4–6 dogs total — compared to 100+ runs at a large kennel facility. Small numbers mean no round-the-clock barking and real individual care.

What should I bring?

Your dog's food (bagged by meal), any medications, leash, and a comfort item from home.

Do you require vaccines?

Yes — proof of Rabies (required by law) plus current vaccines for communal viruses like DHPP and Bordetella.

How much does dog boarding cost in Sacramento?

Traditional kennels in Sacramento typically run $40–$90+ per night depending on room tier. Our in-home boarding is $85/night with individualized care included — no add-on fees for playtime or tuck-ins.

Will I get updates during the stay?

Yes. Stays of a few days get daily photo updates; longer stays get updates every other day.

Will My Dog Be Happy Here?

Absolutely. In fact, that's one of our biggest goals.

We want your dog to have so much fun that boarding feels like their own version of a vacation. Think of it as Doggie Disneyland—filled with play, enrichment, learning, and positive experiences. Of course, every great adventure has rules, and those rules help keep every dog safe, successful, and happy.

Dogs earn opportunities to play by using good manners with their friends and our trainers. Throughout the day, they'll enjoy structured social time, enrichment, rest, and learning, all balanced to match their individual personality and needs.

While you're enjoying your vacation, we want your dog to enjoy theirs, too.

And here's the truth: if your dog isn't happy, we're not happy. We genuinely love seeing dogs wagging their tails, building confidence, making friends, and looking forward to each new day. That's the kind of boarding experience we strive to provide for every dog that stays with us.

When you come to pick them up, we hope they're thrilled to see you—and just a little excited to visit us again next time.
